Newborn Photography
Newborn portraits here at Andy Brown Studios are taken by our sister company Cotton Tail Photography. Our husband and wife team specialise in baby photography and are parents themselves so understand all your needs as a new parent.
A newborn portrait is one of those moments in life that you can't repeat so we capture those precious first few days of life. Ideally shot within the first 21 days of life we recommend you book in for your due date before baby is born and then we can move your appointment as and when baby actually arrives.
Newborn sessions are scheduled midweek and we only ever do two newborn sessions per day as we prefer the sessions to be relaxed and baby-led. It is never possible to estimate how long they will last but usually they fall between 2 to 3 hours in duration depending on baby and we like to start either around 10am or 1.30pm to suit baby's routine. We like to get baby settled and comfortable, and spend as much or as little time as is needed to allow for feeds, changing and everything else. All babies are different and they can't be rushed! To get the sleepy, curled up shots, we ask that if you can, you feed your baby when you get to the studio to allow them to fall asleep just before the session starts.
As parents ourselves, we fully understand how a new mother can feel in the first couple of weeks after giving birth, and if you have managed to get yourself and your baby out of the house for a photography session we want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Come and curl up on the sofa, have a cuppa and a chocolate biscuit (or three) and relax.
We have a wide variety of props and every session is tailored to your preferences, from the style and feel of the images, to particular colour schemes.. If you have anything you would like to have included in the pictures, please bring it with you. If you have something to do with a hobby, a profession, or a childhood memory, or even something from the nursery, please let us know during the booking process so we can plan ahead to incorporate it into the session.
As these are long sessions they are not really suitable for siblings to stay for the whole session. If you would like shots taken with the baby and their siblings, please bring the siblings along for the start of the session and ask that you arrange for a family member to be on hand and collect the sibling once the initial shots are completed. Please let us know about siblings during the booking process so we can arrange the work flow to suit.
For newborn sessions, we would recommended booking just after your 24 week scan. We book babies in when they are 5-10 days old as this is the best age to photograph them. Obviously babies do not always arrive on schedule so if your little one arrives early or late, please get in touch as soon as you can, and we'll tweak the session date.
